windows 10 won't boot. Black screen without cursor. No windows 10 - Microsoft Community.11 Fixes: Windows 10 Black Screen with Cursor after Login

This PC has been working perfectly fine for a while it is a gaming PC. When I turn on the power button it boots up to a black screen for like 5 seconds then loads where I can sign in and it will load. Why is that black screen there in the first place it wasn't there when I bought it several months ago.

From what I have gathered from research is that it could be a hard drive problem or software problem. I thought it possibly could be a virus so I refreshed my pc and it is still doing the same thing. I do not know what else to do. I have tried advance trouble shooting, system restore, going into the command prompt to rebuild bios, the start up repair kit which says it couldn't repair, going into safe mode. Nothing has helped. Any idea what is happening? In windows go to display settings, check for how many connected displays are listed and what one is number 1.

This can be multiple gpu devices, cpu, motherboard chip, physical cards, crossfire, sli or combination. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Are you using the nvidia driver package or microsoft basic display drivers? If you are on a uefi bios, windows boot manager needs to be the first in the boot start, then the actual drive it is on, the other devices like dvd etc.

What you are seeing is called fastboot, it hibernates the pc so when it is turned on, you are in windows login So what you are seeing is normal and not a gpu issue. If you use the restart option it should go through the normal boot cycle where you see the startup menu from the bios options. Yes I am using the Nvidia driver package. My bios is actually in legacy mode and the boot sequence is. I have messed with the order to see if that got rid of it but it did not. Also I do not see windows boot manager.

As far as the fastboot even when turned off, hibernation has never been on also. It still loads the black screen so that is not the cause either. Threats include any threat of suicide, violence, or harm to another.

Now running the motherboard in legacy will limit some options in the os, like booting from larger than. After the bios checks the dvd and sees nothing it will then go to the next device in the set order and so on.

The bios may have a display to show post test menu so short it is not seen, this should be able to be changed.

How I configure my boot set is hard drives first, usb drives, dvd, portable media thumb drives ,network. But if I add or remove anything from windows or the bios I go back in and remove that device, because despite what some here may say, they do interact with each other, sometimes not working in unison.

On my fxa uefi mb it takes more time to see the on screen bios than my 3 other pc's running legacy bios. It also depends on how the boot drive is formatted, mbr for legacy non uefi bios boot drive size.

It does not say what the power supply wattage is on it, this may be under powering the gtx I'm going to start with this link to the system. I am assuming one of these is where the builder started from When I hit display adapters it doesn't show the stock one just the gtx Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community.

When I hit detect it says doesn't detect another display. Also on device manager under display adapters it shows gtx In reply to kjshadowfade's post on January 11, You can turn off these options. I only have fastboot being used on 1 of 4 pc's a laptop and it has not caused any issues. In reply to kjl's post on January 12, My bios is actually in legacy mode and the boot sequence is 1.

My hardrive 3. Diskette drive 4. Usb storage device I have messed with the order to see if that got rid of it but it did not. When I did click on uefi bios there were no options there so I couldn't use it. I appreciate the replies as well, I am thankful that you are helping me. In reply to kjshadowfade's post on January 12, Fastboot, hibernation, hybrid sleep, sleep are set in the power management settings of the os, some options in the bios also that tell the os what the hardware can do.

Now running the motherboard in legacy will limit some options in the os, like booting from larger than 2tb hard drives and other hardware. The c drive or uefi loader should be first. Was the uefi bios ever used in non legacy mode? What kind of diskette drive is i the system?

Yes it does have uefi option, and when I click on it everything is blank. When I try to add option a pop says warning file system not found. The c drive would be on my hard drive I'm assuming so. I did try to boot it uefi regardless of it being blank and it didn't load anything and gave me the option to go to my bios. As far as the diskette drive I am not familiar with it, I believe it is just standard. When I look under disk drives it just shows my hard drive.

Would it help if I included pictures of my whole bios and my device manager? Diskets usually refer to drives floppy or zip drives. If there is not one in the system, the option should be disabled. It is not possible to switch from legacy to uefi and back by setting the bios, the boot drive has to be formated and the os installed using that method. It also depends on how the boot drive is formatted, mbr for legacy non uefi bios boot drive size only 2tb and under, uefi over 2 tb for boot drive but must be gpt format.

Check in disk management for the disk layout mrb og gpt. Check device manager for other display adapters. Ronald J W. The boot black screen is the boot loader which is normally manipulated or changed to show the manufacturers name before booting into windows. In reply to Ronald J W's post on January 12, Did the pc have the amd or nvidia card when purchased? This site in other languages x.
